I have been hunting through some older stuff from the past and found a couple more poems that were submitted for competitions.
Looking back, I've realised that I'm no poet but I like to push out of my comfort zone sometimes to see what I can actually achieve.
Below is a poem I completed, hurriedly, for a competition way back in 2015:
Mary’s little black dress
Stubborn Mary’s in a fair amount of distress,
refusing to wear her little black dress.
Her heels are ready at the foot of the bed
and her fingernails are painted sexy red,
but silly Mary unwisely decides
it’s another outfit she has to find,
knowing full well she’s running short of time.
Tears start to trickle down Mary’s face,
fearing her dilemma threatens the human race.
She wishes her Fairy Godmother was right here,
to make a fantastic party outfit just appear.
Something posh enough for any Queen,
With pretty cuffs and gold stitched seams.
Alas, Mary knows it will never happen,
So she rolls up her sleeves and starts to gets cracking,
by diving head first into her wooden chest
to find that elusive non-black dress.
But she soon gives in, still unwilling to confess,
as she decides to wear her little black dress.
