Creative Writing - 10.01.2021

Happy belated New Year 2021, all!

I bet everyone is glad to see the rear end of 2020.  I know I am.  For me, 2020 was all badd with tiny glimmers of hope.  One of those glimmers was that I did double the amount of writing in 2020 than I had done in previous years.  I know I faltered towards the end of the year but I have picked up the momentum again.

On that note, please find below a quick freewrite to ring in the New Year.

She sat in the cafe, staring into her cup of black coffee, thinking back to how her life, like everyone else's, had changed in the past year.  Nine months ago, she had still been married, living in a nicely furnished home, and working in her dream job.  Now, she was furloughed, separated from her husband and slumming it in a studio flat with sparse furniture and where the view from one of two windows in the dwelling faced the silent backyard of a warehouse that had gone bankrupt after the second lockdown.

Drinking her coffee and looking onto the empty streets was her special moment before the latest national lockdown.  The burn of the hot liquid was satisfying as she savoured the taste of the expresso strong coffee.  Despite everthing that had happened to her, she was still thankful that she was alive and kicking to handle what 2021 might attempt to throw at her.  She decided that this would be her year to take every slim opportunity and miraclously turn them into exciting new things.
