Creative Writing - 04.10.2020
Okay, my offering this week is slightly different. I love poetry but found it's not one of my writing strengths. However, I recently attended a Spread the Word workshop where we were instructed to do a five minute freewrite for no apparent reason other than to get the creative juices flowing. The poem below is the outcome of my freewrite. I haven't changed it very much so it's a bit rough. Still it's a reasonable effort for someone who doesn't really get on with writing poetry.
Changing the eggs
Change can be evil.
It can destroy everything,
when you think you have
all your eggs safely in your basket.
Something comes along and smashes Every. Last. One.
And you have to start again,
picking up the shells, the fragments,
wading through the mess, piecing them together,
trying to make sense of chaos.
Realising these shells can't be mended -
leave them, move on - it's okay, you say
as you let go of the fragments to
embrace the journey, go with the flow, the tempo.
It's scary but you can do it because
you will find more promising eggs along the way.
