Creative Writing - 02.06.2020

Below are a few short pieces I compiled as part of a free creative writing course with the Spread the Word create-write-connect campaign.  #CreateWriteConnect

Finding it outside you

The garden is a huge neglected mess that I should tidy up but there isn’t time to set aside to do it.  The moss mottled paving stones are cracked and crumbling.  The fencing needs to be mended too.  My garden is next to a playing field and the trees that surround it are overgrown.  The weather is lovely today and I can hear the breeze whistling through the leaves.  The birds are busily chattering away to each other, but it is still a peaceful and relaxing space.  There is a greenhouse at the bottom of my garden.  I haven’t used it in years, and it is overgrown from the inside out with Passiflora edulis after I broke one of the panes of glass by accident and now the pane has since collapsed in on itself and the plant has sprouted out.  As I sit on my single garden chair, the sun beats down on my unprotected head.  I hope I don’t get sunstroke.  I see the weeds have taken over quite a bit, as well as the brambles.  There are lots of brambles.  There are lots of bumble bees too.  Breathing in deeply, I inhale the aroma. The aroma of life.

This guest house

This human being looks happy on the outside with its beaming smile and laughing eyes but if you were to enter in you would see the floors are wet with tears from emotional and physical hurts. There is an aroma of anxieties and insecurities that hangs ever present in the atmosphere which wilts the houseplants it comes into contact with, making them depressed and listless.  Way above this gas of disappointments, spread out across the ceiling are this human being’s dreams and beliefs.  Go into the kitchen and pick up the mop bucket containing the murky grey and sour water of hurts, anxieties, insecurities and pain and flush it down the drain to clear the air so unhampered happiness and hopes can thrive once again.

To the lonely girl crying on the doorstep

If you ever eat dirty food in privacy

Start to run and split your trousers

Throw a TV in someone else’s skip after dark

Have a coughing fit in public

Splash paint everywhere from decorating

Laugh out loud while everyone turns to look who it is

Embrace freedom by stop wearing pants

Giggle when a friend falls over in the street

Give yourself a chance because you've earned it

Make yourself sick after drinking

Put fake poo on a doormat

End a ridiculous relationship forever

Turn your back and run away from it all

Dry your tears now and give us a smile because

We've all been there blessed one so don’t give up.

  1. I love your laugh! And I also love it when friends fall over in the street (as long as they don't hurt themselves).
Beautiful writing. The guest house is a striking metaphor.
    Very talented my friend. x
